Artifact Commentary
This analysis of a school professional development was created during TE 872 during the spring of 2011. The goal was to take a critical look at a professional development and be able to analyze it in terms of efficiency and productivity.
As it so happens, this professional development was based on my school’s recent emphasis on professional learning communities, directly tying it with Standard 6. The goal of our professional learning communities, and I’m sure many PLCs is to micro-manage and to garner a web of support for the teachers in the building.
While this was the first time that I was required to analyze a professional development setting, I believe that this is something that all teachers do when in a setting such as this. Teachers inherently want to feel a strong purpose any time we meet. No teacher that I now of likes to meet just for the sake of it. This analysis, accompanied by the knowledge I gained in TE 872, better allows me to approach administrators and professional development coordinators with constructive criticism in regards to school development sessions.
Professional development is required by law, but is frequently not utilized properly. As this artifact will prove, I am now able to critically reflect on these development opportunities in the hopes that I can help improve them.
