To start, I'd like to tell you a little bit about me, my career, and my interests. This coming fall will mark my 8th year as Director of Bands at Springport Public Schools in Springport, MI. In Springport, I teach band in grades 6-12, as well as 5th grade general music, and a high school course in the "History of Rock 'n Roll", a class I conceived and created from scratch. I take great pride in our band program and believe that music, especially in the secondary school setting, offers great learning experiences in not only the arts, but also teamwork, leadership, and self-esteem. To get a better picture of our band program, please take a few minutes and make your way over to www.springportbands.com and take a quick tour around our website. I'm sure you'll enjoy what you see and hear.
On an educational level, I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Music Education degree from Michigan State University (GO GREEN!) in 2005. In the fall of 2011, I completed all requirements to fulfill a Master of Arts in Teaching and Curriculum degree at MSU. While attaining my graduate degree, I chose to focus my studies on educational technology and have found that my passion for the use of new technology tools is growing day-by-day. This website, in fact, serves as my final portfolio for completion of my degree and will hopefully showcase the best of what I've done.
On a personal note, I live in Okemos with my wife, our two sons (2 and a half years old and 7 months old), and 5-year-old labradoodle, Henry. My family and I love the greater Lansing area and can frequently be found at a local park or farmer's market. In my free time, I am an avid golfer, runner, and HUGE soccer fan (Go Arsenal!). I also enjoy reading, especially the fiction of Michael Chabon and Salman Rushdie.
Thanks for visiting and I hope that you enjoy what you see.
